KATHERINE DOLTON
When my third great-aunt, Katherine Dolton, was born in April 1857 in Missouri, her father, Richmond, was forty-one years of age, and her mother, Priscilla, was thirty-four years of age.
After being born in Missouri in 1858 Katherine went back to Illinois to be married. The family had left Illinois to come to Missouri. Grandma Elizabeth Dalton had gone to Georgia from Illinois and died there in 1840. So I don't know why they went back to Illinois. Maybe they went back to married with the rest of the Epperson clan. Pedro Willis Epperson, husband of Elizabeth Hart Dalton, was one of the patriarchs of the clan and he lived in Rio, Knox, Illinois, until his death. Anyway, they went back to Illinois, got married and then went to Iowa. Once they saw what Iowa was like, they couldn't stand that so they went back to Illinois again and once back in Illinois they stayed there for a long time and both their children were born there.
The 1880 US Federal Census for Stuart, Guthrie County, Iowa, has a record of the William and Kate Eperson household. William Eperson was the head of household, a white, male, age 24 years, married, working as a painter. He was born abt 1856 in Iowa; his father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Ohio. Kate Eperson was a white, female, age 22 years, wife, married, keeping house. Kate was born abt 1858 in Missouri; her father was born in Kentucky and her mother in Illinois.
The 1900 US Federal Census for Galesburg Ward 6, Knox County, Illinois, has a record of the household of W. E. (William) Epperson and Kate E. Epperson. They were living at 540 Clark Street in Galesburg. W. E. Epperson was the head of houshold, a white, male, born Stpt 1855 in Iowa, 44 years of age, married for 21 years, his father was born in Kentucky. William was supporting the family as a real estate agent. Kate E Epperson was William's wife, white, female, born Apr 1857 in Missouri, age 43 years, married 21 years, she had two children and they were both living. Her father was born in Kentucky and her mother in Indiana. Clyde O Epperson was William's son, white, male, born March 1884 in Illinois, age 16 years, and single. Ethel Epperson was William's daughter, white, female, born Dec 1888 in Illinois, 11 years of age, and single. Both Clyde and Ethel were attending school.
What caused them to go to Colorado? Did they go to Colorado because Clyde decided to go to school there and they went and joined him. Or was there something else that drew them to Colorado and then Clyde went to the University of Colorado?
In 1903 at the age of twenty Clyde was a sophmore the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. If he graduated on schedule, then he graduated in 1905. Ancestry doesn't have a 1905 yearbook on-line.
In 1930 Clyde was an Investment Banker investing in stocks and bonds. In 1931 Clyde (at the age of 47) was president of Burnair Inc. in Denver. In 1948 (at the age of 64) he was an employee of Denver Wholesale Florists in Denver.
When she died in 1903 she was buried in Columbia Cemetery in Boulder, Boulder County, Colorado. She was survived by her husband and daughter. Both of them are also buried in Columbia Cemetery in Boulder. Clyde and his wife Laura were buried in Fairmount Cemetery, in Denver, Denver County, Colorado, sixty years later.
