Ennis G. Dolton
Joseph Hahn Dolton (1840-1918)
Ennis Dolton was born 3 June 1878 (see below) the seventh of seven children born to Joseph and Sarah (Thornton) Dolton. His father, Joseph, was 39 and his mother, Sarah, was 41 when Ennis was born. The Dolton family were farmers in DeKalb County, Missouri.
Ennis died in childhood. According to the record and the photograph of his tombstone on the Find A Grave web site (Find A Grave Memorial# 41131008) his name was Enes G. Dolton. He was the "s/o J.H. & Sarah I. Dolton," the date of death is given as 5 August 1883 and the inscription reads that he was "3 years 2 months and 2 days" old when he died. I subtracted his age from his date of death and it indicates his birth date was Thursday, 3 June 1880. However, the 1880 US Federal Census for the Joseph and Sarah Dolton family, which was taken on 10 June 1880 in Washington, DeKalb, Missouri, indicates that Ennis Dolton, son of Joseph, was two years old which would have made him five years old at the time of his death.
Whether three years old or five years old; whether he was the seventh child or elsewhere in the birth order his mother and father no doubt felt a great loss at his death.
